ABOUT

The term “Church and State” stands for “freedom of belief”. In relation to Church and State Wines, we have adapted this message to signify that our wines “speak for themselves”. We want to leave the appraisal, value, and judgment in the hands of our customers, and therefore, make every effort to create the highest quality and most outstanding wines possible.

By focusing on the unique terroir of each vineyard, we hope to bring to life the full potential of Canadian viticulture and winemaking.

Originally established here on Vancouver Island in 2004, Church & State Wines has expanded to include 80+ acres of property in the Oliver-Osoyoos corridor in the Okanagan Valley. The latest addition to our property was the Coyote Bowl Vineyard in 2011.

Church & State produces 100% BC VQA wines. Every wine we produce has been grown in our own estate vineyards and nurtured under the strict eyes of our Vineyard staff and Winemaker, Arnaud Thierry. We do not source grapes from anywhere else.

READ BIO

Our winemaker, Arnaud Thierry joined the team in late 2017. He was all but born into winemaking having spent much of his youth amidst the vines of Bordeaux. His interest in biology and biochemistry, as well as a desire to understand the art of viticulture, led him to study enology in Champagne for several years. This, coupled with a love of nature, cuisine, and diverse flavors brought to life by wine brought him deeper into the world of winemaking.

As winemaker for Church & State, Arnaud is proud to work in a team of like-minded and passionate people, all driven to understand the specific needs of the vines and the production of exquisite wines. Ultimately, Arnaud believes his role is to create wines that people enjoy and flavors that they celebrate for decades to come.
