If any of you out-of-towners are planning a trip to the Island, be sure to check out Gazebo B&B, on the Saanich Peninsula. Select from a secluded garden cottage or private elegant rooms in a country manor house surrounded by lovely gardens. Enjoy affordable luxury: Canada Select 5 Star rating at 4 Star prices. “Our 3-day stay at Gazebo Bed & Breakfast in Victoria on Vancouver Island is truly one of the best lodging experiences we’ve ever had. The proprietors, Linda & Martin, were a joy to meet, and proved very helpful in guiding us to Victoria’s many wonderful tourist attractions. They are incredibly organized – individual binders of things like restaurants, must-see destinations and ferry information awaited us and believe me, we used it! The Gazebo itself is a beautiful house in the wine country. The rooms are clean, painted in vivid colors, each with their own outside access. The breakfasts are top-notch as well.” Check out this great Victoria B&B HERE!
Our friends over a Foodie.ca recently visited Brentwood Bay to experience the new Raptors at Church & State program! If you haven’t heard yet, we have launched The Raptors at Church & State, which is part of our commitment to finding solutions that are in tune with nature, and support the natural world around us. This program is the start of our environmental vineyard management program, using Raptors to patrol the vineyards for pest birds, in lieu of bird netting or propane cannons.
See what the Foodies had to say about this unique experience HERE!
Karl from My Wine Pal visited our Brentwood Bay location recently and was kind enough to share his notes from the day. Click HERE to read the full article, but here’s a quick sample:
“The Merlot 2009 is medium garnet in colour. Light cherry, oak, and spicy aromas. Medium body with lots of plummy and black cherry flavours. A bit of flowers and spice on the finish. Medium acidity and tannins.
The Meritage 2006 is a blend of three Bordeaux varietals – Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Deeper garnet in colour. A very wild nose! Animal and overripe black fruit. Meaty, animal and black cherry flavours with medium tannins. A very masculine wine. Have a big slab of roast beef with this wine.”
Look for these wines to be available in our Online Store shortly!

We are proud to announce the launch of The Raptors at Church & State. Starting today, visitors will be able to get close to some truly impressive birds of prey, including eagles, hawks, owls, falcons, and vultures as they demonstrate their natural flying and hunting abilities. The Raptors specialists will explain the birds’ behaviour and their unique personalities, while you enjoy a glass of award winning, locally produced wine to savour in this spectacular setting.
Come visit us this weekend to be some of the first people to experience these majestic birds doing what they do best! Click here for full details.
Found a great folder of photos from our big move from Brentwood Bay to Oliver. Finally winemaking and growing happening in the same place! There’s also some shots from our 2009 harvest – definitely some humble beginnings!
Nice write up on the 2005 Quintessential coming from Whitecourt, Alberta. If you have some of this wine, you’re one of the lucky few, with the 2006 nearly gone, the ’05 is extra rare these days.
“I finally tried the Church & State Quintessential 2005 and all I have to say is … YUM!!…”
“Swirl, sniff, taste, swish, spit, repeat. Four … hundred … times. While it may seem a bit overwhelming, I can think of far worse things to be doing over a long weekend in San Francisco.”
Thanks to all the judges for your hard work and deeming our Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon worthy of Double Gold!
2009 Church & State Pinot Gris
“Once again the team at Church & State winery have release a very fruit forward, well balanced, wine with ripe acidity. It is the perfect patio wine or wine to pair with plank salmon, grilled tuna or just with the sunshine.”It tastes like MORE!!”
Check out all their picks here!
Found this article from Anthony Gismondi last night from when we first started out! Circa 2005. Pretty interesting read
“My guess is you are going to hear a lot more about the wine at Church and State in the future which can only be a good thing for Victoria. Stay tuned for more news as it happens.”
