Gillian Radcliffe

Gillian is a Registered Professional Biologist with over 25 years experience specializing in wildlife ecology, habitat management, and, for the last 10 years, raptor ecology and applied falconry. Her background is in wildlife and conservation biology and natural areas management. Gill graduated from Aberdeen University with a Masters in Ecology, and variously worked for the Nature Conservancy in England, the National Trust for Scotland, and then spent over two years with National Parks in Borneo. In B.C. Gill developed and led the wildlife and ecological work of a consulting company for some 18 years, conducting research and applied wildlife projects on numerous ecosystems and species throughout the province. In 2002 she decided to focus more specifically on Birds of Prey, and founded Pacific Northwest Raptors. Gill is intent on learning – and sharing – as much as possible about all aspects of raptor biology and ecology, for both wild and captive raptors. Her hope is to raise awareness and respect for these remarkable birds and their natural ecosystems, to actively promote good stewardship and improve conservation efforts, and to help raise standards of care for captive birds. Gill also works on a number of applied wildlife management programs involving trained raptors flown to effect bird control at various sites, including landfills, airports, vineyards, and other industrial, urban, and agricultural settings.

Robyn Radcliffe

Robyn has been daily operations manager of Pacific Northwest Raptors, and since 2006 has been intimately involved with all aspects of the day to day running of a busy raptor centre, as well as training staff and birds for raptor care and for applied bird control work. Robyn is dedicated to working with birds of prey; she sees this as more a way of life than a job. She spends much time working directly with PNWR’s own raptors on a daily basis, and in the past has also devoted considerable time to the rescue and care of wild raptors. Robyn has extensive experience with and excels at hands on work with birds of prey. She has provided high quality educational flying programs to students and the public at every level. She frequently delivers programs to university biology students, and she has developed and led interpretive programs that have been delivered to hundreds of thousands of people in B.C., including raptor programs on Grouse Mountain and at Vancouver Aquarium. Robyn has also managed and co-ordinated a number of applied bird control programs using trained raptors, such as the gull management program at Hartland Landfill.
